[Suggestion] Suggesting “Post as” option to Facebook.

FacebookFacebook currently has two types of profile pages. The first type is “Personal Profiles”, which are meant to be representing persons, and the second type is “Public Profiles”, which are meant to be representing public entities such as organizations, music bands, educational institutes etc. You “Add as Friend” “Personal Profiles” and you “Like” “Public Profiles”.

Anyone with a Facebook account has a personal profile and s/he can create many public profile too. But there is a problem …

Problem:

If you have a Facebook public profile created and should you wish to post anything in it with your own personality, rather than as the public profile it self, you can not do it! Although you can Like posts in that public profile as your-own-self, you can’t post anything in it as your-own-self. Anything you post in that public profile is going to be labeled as “Posted by the-public-profile”, not your-own-self!

Imagine, you are a member of your school’s web team and it is up to you to maintain school’s Facebook public profile. Your friends are getting involved in a interesting debate in that page, but you only can watch them but not participate in it. Why? Anything you say will be labeled as your school said it! Its too odd and very unlikely that a “school” get into online conversation with it’s Facebook “Likers”.

Solution:

The solution is “Post as” option!

With “Post as”, you’ll be able to post anywhere in Facebook as your-own-self or as any of public profiles administrated by you.

Facebook Post as

This will enable you to choose whether you want to publish something in a Facebook public profile as your-own-self or as that or any other public profile.

And of course, you would post on other place like groups and events as either your-own-self or as a public profile you administrate!

Imagine, a sister school of your’s is celebrating it’s 81st anniversary this year and you can go to it’s public profile in Facebook and post a “official” school-to-school greeting, appearing as your school’s public profile!

Or you can go to student’s personal profiles and post school related notices for them to appear as the school posted it.

Got the idea? Simple and very useful!

  1. Even if you wanna make a Facebook page you must sign up for a personal profile first. In the other hand, administrators can use a personal profile for them selves. For example, Dialog Telekom's official page. The two admins of page also used to comment/like Dialog's posts via their personal profiles.

Post something on Page as admin, log out.

Log in again as your self, go the page or check the post on news feed (aka home page) and join the conversation

  2. @Madhawa: Wrong, you can't post as yourself in a public profile that you administer, and that is what I want to do. Having a separate Facebook account just to administer public profiles? That is not a good idea. :)

  3. Good post broo :) Simple and very useful

  4. @Dar[K]: Thanks! It'll be very helpful if you can support the idea on the Developers' Forum.
