So, I bought a smart phone. Its a Huawei IDEOS X3 U8510 device and ,following my computer naming scheme, I named it “hal600”.
By that name, you’d already know that this devices’ processor’s speed is 600Mhz. You’d say that is very slow compared to many high end devices in the market.
But I wasn’t looking for the device with the best specifications, I was looking for the cheapest option that could fulfil my requirements, which are very low.
Don’t be surprised when I say I was even considering a Micromax phone. But I gave up the idea of that when I knew it is running an ancient version of the Android OS.
Then I was eyeing to Samsung Galaxy Y. I was almost ready to buy it when my friends in Facebook told me that Samsung Galaxy Y has a very small screen, when I posted my idea of buying that phone to the mentioned social network. According to my opinion, that is a great device and I’d have totally bought that if there wasn’t that screen size issue.
When I was searching online for an alternative, I found that Etisalat is offering this Huawei IDEOS X3 for 26k LKR, which is quite affordable to me. And the phone is not network locked. So I went to Etisalat’s agent in Matara and bought it.
The first device provided to me had an issue of not sending electricity to the battery. Guys at the Matara agency told me they would get me a replacement within 2 weeks. But thanks to me shouting at them ,I got the replacement within 4 days.
Back to the device, so far so good and I am happy with this. This can make calls, send texts plus this is an small PC as any smart phone should be. Surely this won’t be able to do any heavy work, but then I have hal2130 (my laptop PC) for that.
I wanted this to get into the smart phone world, try Android and make use of some Android apps that I’ve saw online, eg, the the Getglue app. And to checkin to placed I visit. Having a digital notepad is something I wanted since a long time, too.
I’m sure hal600 will help me with those tasks.
I’m writing this lying in my bed through the WordPress app for Android.
I’d love to know what my readers think about this, if there is such a species called “readers of budhajeewa’s blog”. I hope I’ll be able to post more often to this blog because of hal600.

You could have gone for Vodafone 858 which is below 10k but its a bit less in everything else too π (speed,screen size,ram,colors,internal memory) It has GPS though.Good luk with the battery.it sucks!
I looked at that once but gave up on that because it has Froyo. I was looking for a Gingerbread.

Why did you root? What are the benefits you get from it? Did you install a custom ROM?
I just wanted to experiment. Anyway how are you gonna install sinhala without rooting?

I don't have much experience with android devices. Most of my experience is with an iPhone that I've had for 3 years.
Is this an Android phone? I'm not that familiar with Huawei phones, as they aren't sold in the US.

I've had a Samsung Galaxy Nexus since Christmas, admittedly it's a better phone, and I've never looked back. Android just does everything I could want. Yes it does crash a couple of times a month but my laptop is worse than that. My Nexus is almost a replacement for all my other technology – who needs a Nintendo DS or even a laptop when they can play Angry Birds or browse the web through their smartphone?
Smartphones are the way forwards so it's good to see you agree.

Congrats on your first smartphone. I started with an Ipod touch (not a phone but smart) and progressed to an ipad then an iphone. I am pleased with my choices too..
Never heard of that phone, but glad it meets all your requirements.
Now is the fun time to play with apps! Personally I don't know what I would do with out Evernote & Square. I would suggest checking those out.

My first smart phone was a 35 iPhone. I'm satisfied with it, have no complaints and recommend iPhones to anyone looking for a user friendly experience.

It's interesting that you posted about the screen size. This can definitely be a big downside to any phone whether a Samsung Galaxy Y or some other model. A phone with a screen that is too small can deter you from wanting to use the phone to its absolute best benefit and afterall, the whole reason to buy this genre of phone is to use it as much as possible. Thank you so much for sharing all the factors you weighed when considering your phone purchase. It provides much food for thought. I also love that you named your new phone “hal600″ That is a perfect name and fits completely with your new device.
I am happy for you to get a new smartphone. I did have an android phone for a while, and really enjoyed it. I am mostly home now on the laptop, so I didn't replace the phone after I fell into a river with it in my pocket!
Some day I will bite the bullet and join the rest of the world and succumb to the almighty cell phone gods!

Mine didn't come with replacement ones, black only, they sell them only like that in Germany. I'd like to order additional covers, but don't know where – can't see any onο»Ώ eBay or so.

I got my Blackberry Torch not long ago and absolutely happy with that even though hear "Why BB not an IPhone". It's such a time saver for me.. Glad you enjoy your phone even haven't heard of this brand. These days we all need more than just a phone with its primary functions. π
